May 9 from 5:30 - 8:00pm:  Two Great Apes Painting.  Cloud Cliff Bakery and Art Space, Project Sweet Dreams, teaches children humane ethics and compassionate action through the study of Great Apes, andThe Oz School, an after school art program that supports the humane treatment of animals through children’s art, join forces in a fundraiser for Save The Chimps.  The fundraiser supports moving 152 chimps in Alamogordo to their permanent sanctuary in Florida.

May 10-11 from 10am - 4 pm:  Grand Open House at Kindred Spirits Animal Sanctuary .  Please come celebrate the new “Big Dog House/Workshop Space”.  Salvador is ready to greet you at the gate! May 10 from 10am - 2pm:  The House Rabbit Society will offer affectionate, litter-trained, spayed or neutered rabbits for adoption at the PetCo store located at 3601 Old Airport Road in Albuquerque.  Several breeds and sizes are available and adoption fee of $99 is required.   These are rabbits who have been rescued through various shelters in town.   For more information about adopting rabbits as house pets - visit our web site at www.rabbit.org or stop by the event to talk to friendly knowledgeable people to learn more about rabbits as house pets and other ways to help with rabbit rescue.

May 10-11 from 9am - 5pm:  The Enchanted Cat Club presents a Feline Fiesta! at the School Arts Building, New Mexico Exp Fairgrounds.  Proceeds benefit the rescue cats of Albuquerque Cat Action Team and New Mexico Animal Friends.  This is an all breed cat show sanctioned by The International Cat Association (TICA). Ten rings of continuous judging plus lots of great stuff for cats and cat lovers. Cost:  Adults $4.00 / Seniors - $3.00 / Children under 12 are free.  For more information call (505) 296-8869 or (505) 897-0464.

 May 17 from 8:00am-3:00pm:  The Prairie Dog Pals Garage Sale will be held at 5219 Vista Bonita NE in Albuquerque. All funds will go towards prairie dog preservation.  If you have donations for the sale, plan to bring them by between 6-8pm the week of the sale.  Contact Ray at (505) 237-0347 to arrange a mutually convenient drop off date/time.

May 17 from 11am-3pm:  Pet Adoption Carnival at San Isidro Plaza near the Lowe’s parking lot area at Cerrillos & Zafarano in Santa Fe.  Bringing together animals in need of loving homes from several area animal rescue organizations.  Featuring face painting, children’s games, fortune telling, and pet portraits by Norah Levine of kibbles N’ pix Pet Photography donated with each adoption! 

May 24 at 10:30am:  Free Snake Awareness Class presented by Tom Wyatt of The Wildlife Center will be presented at the Santa Fe Animal Shelter’s Training Center on Camino Entrada.  Topics will include snake identification, bite prevention and first aid for snake bites.  He will also have about 20 snakes on hand for the presentation.  For questions or directions, please call Lisa at (505) 983-4309 ext. 230.

May 31 starting at 9am:  Espanola Valley Humane Society Spring Clean-up Day.  The EVHS is inviting volunteers from the public to help bring an element of community to their shelter.  They will be planting catnip gardens, re-landscaping the grounds, painting walls, building cat trees, and cleaning the building top to bottom.  Families, seniors, children and groups are welcome to attend - there is plenty of work to be done! PIT BULL PUPPY TRAINING CLASSES

Animal Humane Association of New Mexico (AHANM) and Responsibly Adopting Pit Bulls (RAPP) have joined forces to teach basic socialization skills to pit bull and pit bull cross puppies from two to five months old. Classes are taught by a certified pet dog trainer. Classes are held on Saturday mornings from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. at AHANM. No registration is needed and classes are on a drop-in basis. June 7 from 11am-4pm:   The Motoring for Mutts Car Show and Critter Run will come together this year to benefit the Santa Fe Animal Shelter and Humane Society.   Registration for the Critter Run starts at the Harley Davidson Store in Santa Fe at 10:00 am and motorcyclists will start their ride at 11:00 am. The car show will begin at 1:00 pm on the shelter grounds. For entry fee or other information, contact Kerry at 983-4309 x 270 for more information.

June 21, 8-11am:  Paws for a Cause at Alto Park, heading towards the plaza. Benefits National Dance Institute of NM, The Santa Fe Animal Shelter and St. Vincent Hospital Foundation.  Bring your friends and your pooch to walk, play games, dress-up for the pet costume contest, and play in pet-friendly activities to win doggie and people PRIZES!  Participants should contact Kerry with SFAS at 983-4309 x270 for more information.

LOW-COST SPAY NEUTER SERVICES/VACCINATIONS

 

Santa Fe Animal Shelter and Humane Society

’s NEW low-cost Spay/Neuter & Wellness Clinic is open Tuesday through Friday from 7 AM to 4 PM. The clinic is dedicated to serving our community through compassionate animal care.

Services include spay/neuter, vaccinations, heartworm testing and preventative, microchipping, and feline leukemia/FIV testing and vaccination.

Vaccination clinics are held on the first Friday of each month, and no appointment is necessary. To schedule a spay/neuter appointment or for more information, call (505) 474-6422.
